Patients with urgent medical needs are treated by the general surgery department. The general surgical service covers a wide spectrum of emergency disorders, from non-specific abdominal discomfort and abscesses to potentially fatal conditions including rapid abdominal bleeding and ruptured spleen. Due to limited bed capacity and social distance requirements, we are now prioritising our most urgent patients across all three facilities, such as those with a proven cancer diagnosis. The patients with the greatest clinical need are still being reviewed and treated. Patients on an established cancer pathway or those with suspected or confirmed malignancies are among them. We are scheduling in-person appointments for patients who have been identified as the most critically ill.
